Band and Demo Reviews: Unsigned Music Reviews
Blakfish
BlakfishWith new EP 'Gold' out, a series of impressive gigs lined up and tours with the wonderful 'Meet Me In St Louis' scheduled, big things are expected of the talented Birmingham band. This is not without good reason, as they possess some killer songs. 'Planes, Trains and Obese', taken from Gold, comprises indie guitar foundations with simply stunning bass guitar, not dissimilar to a spate of heavier band, such as Mastodon. With vocals that range from hauntingly melodic to loud and piercing, the elements of their 'naughty indie' have potential to make them a big name across the UK. 'Captain Burns' is another track that shows Blakfish are ones to watch. Not commercial NME ones to watch, but ones to watch for all rock fans, from the At The Drive In fans to those who love The Mars Volta. Indeed, this is special stuff. That the live energy and intensity of the band is captured here is an imprtessive feat. With 'Jeremy Kyle Is A Marked Man', rcorded from an acoustic session, also impressing greatly, Blakfish seem to have something for everyone, as further demonstrated by the superb 'Death Of A Soap Star', from 2006's offering 'myforteistimetravel'. Riffs galore, brilliant vocals: a great track. I'd suggest catching them live, listen to their MySpace tracks, buy Gold, do anything to catch them now. myspace.com/blakfish Further Information
