Band and Demo Reviews: Unsigned Music Reviews
Serpico
SerpicoSerpico are an impressive band, that's for sure, and offer melodic rock that doesn't seem clichéd or dated, with is a testimony to their style. 'Thinking of You' comes in with a stylish piano intro, and the vocals, vaguely reminiscent of Bono, are strong, with instrument work in the background, especially from the guitars, working very well. The beautiful vocal intro of 'Level 9' is one of the melodies that set the band aside from a lot of others around. They're not just another from the mould of generic melodic rockers, as there is an extra, alternative edge to their music. This is a piano led track, yet at no point do comparisons to Keane or Coldplay come to mind. 'Telling Tales' is a fitting finale for the band: a strong rock song, with driving guitar work and solid musicianship. There are a lot of positives about this band, and they're well worth a listen. www.myspace.com/serpicoband SerpicoEngaging, clever guitar work sets up the vocals in 'Glasseye', which should be the starting point for anyone interested in this band. The rock onslaught of '400 Blows To The Head' is very good, but after hearing the brilliant Glasseye it seems even better. This is a band who can play a good song without having the philosophy of 'louder is better' at the forefront of their minds.'Alkaline Night' follows in 400 Blows' path of up-and-at-em rock, and they do this with a swagger and nod towards some true rock greats. Tints of Metallica? Motorhead? You got it. 'Kultura' is again strong, no frills rock, but the guitar is not just loud, but stylish. Impressive work from a band with an extensive tour schedule and slots in the past with, among others, InMe. Very good offering. www.myspace.com/serpicoband Further Information
